LAPD Faces Backlash and Investigation After Officer Fatally Shoots Jameson, a Beloved Knicks-Jersey-Wearing Saint Berdoodle, Sparking a $200K+ GoFundMe Justice Campaign for Owner Marie Marseille in Canoga Park

LOS ANGELES, CA — What should have been a night of pure celebration turned into a devastating tragedy for a Los Angeles family. Just ten minutes after cheering the New York Knicks' NBA championship victory, a beloved 2-year-old Saint Berdoodle named Jameson was shot and killed by an LAPD officer.

The heartbreaking incident has ignited massive public outrage, fueling a GoFundMe campaign that has shattered its initial $10,000 goal to raise over $200,000 for Jameson’s justice campaign and cremation fees. READ MORE HERE

Celebration Turns to Tragedy in Canoga Park

The fatal shooting occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at a condominium complex in Canoga Park. Officers from the LAPD’s Topanga Patrol Division were responding to a radio call regarding a "screaming woman" and a suspected domestic violence incident.

According to the LAPD, officers encountered the dog’s owner, Marie Marseille, and asked her to secure the animal. Police allege that after briefly closing the door, the door was reopened, allowing Jameson—a large golden retriever, Saint Bernard, and poodle mix—to exit into the hallway. Officers claim the dog charged at them, prompting one officer to draw and fire their service weapon.

However, attorneys representing Marseille and her son, Jeremiah Garcia, fiercely dispute this narrative. They state that Jameson, wearing a New York Knicks jersey, was simply standing beside his owner when she answered the door and posed absolutely no threat to the officers.

"Jameson was not merely a dog. He was a beloved member of this family. He was a loyal companion, a source of comfort, and a cherished part of their daily lives. Marie and Jeremiah are grieving a profound loss and remain committed to pursuing every appropriate avenue to ensure that the truth is uncovered." — Statement from the Family's Legal Counsel

Public Outrage Sparks a Six-Figure Fundraiser

In the wake of the shooting, a wave of community solidarity has transformed the exterior of the Canoga Park condominium into a memorial filled with flowers, candles, handwritten tributes, and photos of Jameson.

The viral nature of the story has led to a massive influx of financial support:

The GoFundMe Campaign: Has raised over $200,000 to fund legal fees, independent reviews, and cremation costs.

Public Debate: The massive six-figure sum has also sparked online discussions regarding accountability, police training involving domestic pets, and the ultimate allocation of the crowdsourced funds.

City Leadership and LAPD Launch Investigation

The heavy public scrutiny has drawn immediate attention from city officials, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who ordered a full investigation into the shooting. "Every life lost to violence is a tragedy, and we know that the devastating loss of Jameson will be felt by his family forever," Mayor Bass stated, confirming she has spoken directly with police leadership to guarantee strict accountability.
