GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, MI — A 51-year-old security guard from Flint, Michigan, has tragically passed away after his vehicle plunged into a pond outside Henry Ford Genesys Hospital on Thursday evening. Authorities believe a sudden medical emergency may have caused the crash.
The victim has been identified as Jeffrey Johnson, a dedicated employee of Teachout Security Solutions who was actively on duty at the time of the incident.
Heroic Rescue Efforts at the Scene
Emergency crews from the Grand Blanc Township Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the hospital grounds shortly before 6:30 p.m. following frantic reports of a submerged vehicle with an occupant still trapped inside.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered the vehicle completely underwater, submerged in approximately 10 feet of water. In a desperate bid to save Johnson, a rescue team consisting of three police officers, three firefighters, and two civilian bystanders immediately braved the water to reach the vehicle.
The team successfully extricated Johnson from the car, but he was already in cardiac arrest. Paramedics on the scene initiated immediate, aggressive lifesaving measures as they rushed him to the adjacent Henry Ford Genesys Hospital Emergency Department. Despite the exhaustive efforts of medical personnel, Johnson was later pronounced dead.
Ongoing Investigation and Tributes
Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation indicate that Johnson likely suffered a severe medical episode, causing his vehicle to veer off the roadway and into the pond. The Grand Blanc Township Police Department is continuing to investigate the exact sequence of events, with assistance from the Genesee County Sheriff's Office and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
Following the tragedy, Johnson’s employer, Teachout Security Solutions, released a statement on Facebook expressing deep sorrow and calling his sudden passing a “tremendous loss” for their team and the community he worked to protect.
